# Data Import
## Data Settings - Utilities
You have the option of **importing the item, department and price level information** from an external **EXCEL** file, or importing the items, departments and price levels information from an external **SQL** file. This process **overwrites the current data** but does not delete the database. Therefore, you can perform imports of a few records that will be added or updated in the database, but will not delete any information.
When you want to import an EXCEL or SQL file, click the button to browse for the file.
When you select the file you want to import, simply click on the **Accept** button to start the process.
To see the format of the file to be imported, we recommend that you first select **Data Export** and use the obtained file as a sample for the **Import**.
